2-1-1 US is a steering committee that provides 2-1-1 national leadership, which has evolved from the still-engaged partnership between the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) and United Way Worldwide (UWW) who remain parties to this understanding. The mission of 2-1-1 US is to ensure that 2-1-1 is Excellent, Everywhere and Always. 2-1-1 US and most state 2-1-1 organizations have entered into Memoranda of Understanding in order to detail mutual expectations and responsibilities between 2-1-1 US and state organizations to support a clear conduit between local 2-1-1 services and 2-1-1 US to ensure a continued unity of purpose and service delivery expectations.

A comprehensive manual developed and published by AIRS that provides an introduction to the practice of information and referral. It is primarily intended as a guide for new staff and the foundation for the initial orientation and/or training programs of information and referral (I&R) providers, but can also be used as a reference tool and refresher for more experienced staff. It is especially relevant to I&R practitioners who are preparing to obtain their AIRS Certification as either an information and referral specialist (CIRS), an information and referral specialist in aging (CIRS-A) or a resource specialist (CRS) and who want to re-acquaint themselves with some aspects of the formal language/structure of I&R that they might encounter in a certification examination.

A system of financial recordkeeping in which transactions are recorded as expenses when they are incurred (i.e. when a bill is received for merchandise or services provided to the organization) and as income when it is earned (i.e. when services or merchandise is provided by the organization, or the organization receives a commitment of a contribution) rather than when cash is paid or received. The alternative is Cash-basis accounting.
